After only two days since its Japanese release, Pokémon Black and White 2 has managed to sell just under 1.62 million copies, beating first-week sales figures for Diamond/Pearl and HeartGold/SoulSilver. This makes Black and White 2 the third fastest-selling Nintendo DS game; the fastest-selling being the original Black and White.
This is in contrast to criticism that the series has become stagnant due to lack of original ideas, the latest being the first ever numbered sequel. Although there was concern that the games were developed for Nintendo DS, as opposed to the newer Nintendo 3DS, Black and White 2‘s sales figures indicate that Nintendo’s last-generation handheld is not completely dead yet.
Pokémon Black and White 2 is set for a European release this Autumn.
